WANTED: New Day - ireneintheworld

Applicants will be tested

for depression, rain and wind-speed –

only the best degrees need apply.

No tornadoes please.

Sunny disposition an advantage.

Let the new day

seep through clouds and present itself

smartly dressed

for interview.

We need to beat the years

that race away like sprinters

leaving us lounging in coffee shops

people-watching.

Old days twist themselves in our hair

bring us together

a froth of gossip with latte

and heart to heart we open up compartments

scan interiors

for crumbs to grind our gums.

We are ordinary work-a-day women

sliding to a halt.

The past has worn us out.

Come sup with us.

We’ll promise

to goodbye all our yesterdays

and fly into the sun

tomorrow.

The End
