Kind Crow

Kind crow,

cock your head this way

listen

while I try to say

try to say something meaningful

try to say something that matters

because everything seems so dull

and dreary and

lacking

and—

It’s so very hard to know

the answers

to know the questions

to know

at all.

Some days I’m a grimace on the face

of a mask

and sometimes I breathe dandelion fuzz

and choke on the smoke

from a car

that passes me

like so many pass me

on wings of steel

not feathers.

I give this moment to you

steal it from me please

and hold

tightly

and listen

hard

because

sometimes

I try enough

but can’t hold up

and tumble

dear crow,

I tumble

and I fall.

The End
