FinisMature

The sirens came around

About a minute after the crash

They say the light was red

But he just kept going.

Those at the scene

Swore it was a dream

The moment was gone

In one blinding instant.

They say the driver was drunk,

Couldn’t see the wheel

Or the passengers beside him,

Or the woman he hit.

Eyes hazed and confused,

The man pushed the car.

The people cried out,

But the moment was gone.

Well life just goes so damn fast,

It doesn’t seem quite fair.

By the time it’s all over,

We’re all asking for more.

After so many mistakes,

I asked “What can I do?”

The silence was the answer,

And tonight I’m alone.

The bodies revealed,

One two and three,

A boy and two girls,

Mangled in a steel heap.

The cops and the crowd

Shook their heads in disbelief.

No one could know,

No one could care.

They say that parents were shocked,

The kids couldn’t do wrong,

But now they lied on the ground,

On a red, concrete road.

Struck with such grief,

Many fell and crumbled,

What could they have done?

We all did the best we could.

They say that the driver

Sent a call late last night,

Said “Tell them I’m sorry,

And that I’ve done bad.

I’ve made my mistakes,

And I have yet to pay.

I’ve made my friends enemies,

And my enemies hate more.

Said “Tell them I’m sorry,

For who I really was.

I ran the red light

When they shouted at me to stop.

I killed on the way,

And I left them behind.

Tell them I’m sorry,

Because I can’t be anymore”.

Well life just goes so damn fast,

It doesn’t seem quite fair.

By the time it’s all over,

We’re all asking for more.

After so many mistakes,

I asked “What can I do?”

The silence was the answer,

And tonight I’m alone.

Well this is one last goodbye,

I’m tired of being the same old lie,

We cheat and we lie and none of us die.

I’m running the red light,

And ending this plight.

Well this is one last goodbye,

I’m tired of being the same old lie,

We cheat and we lie and none of us die.

I’m running the red light,

And ending this plight.

All of our errors,

And all of our people,

Be it wrong or correct,

We seem to hurt all.

All of our errors,

And all of our people,

Come back and come back

And we all do wrong.

Well this is one last goodbye,

Surely you’re tired of being a lie.

I cheat and I steal and can’t manage to feel.

Let’s run the red light,

We’ll be dead tonight.

The End
