The One WishMature

The Boy:

Ought I work by the hour?

Should I live like the others?

A mood such as mine,

Is much to sour.

For me to bear.

Am I allowed to wonder?

Can I be curious?

Tell me why,

That I not ponder?

This life needs a twist.

Oh I ought not complain.

A life of ordinary

Is just fine for me.

Adventure is in vain,

I can stay here

A life of ordinary,

A life that’s pretty plain.

The Old Man:

You talk like a fool,

Do you see?

The sheltered mind

Does deceive you

Break the evil chains.

I know, you’re one wish.

A dream, your favorite dream.

You want to go off and away!

Here I am to say:

Follow your one wish!

Do not allow to be stopped!

Move on, move on!

A pity you wait

A journey waits for no one!

Go on, child,

Follow your favorite dream.

The Boy:

Dreams are merely dreamt,

A vision of fantasy.

Don’t twist my mind,

As I slept,

I knew it was untrue.

I must laugh at heroes,

Tales of villains,

I am neither or other.

My life is of the zeroes,

And I dare not complain.

My one wish,

Ha! Doesn’t exist!

I’d rather life simply

Then swim with other fish.

Don’t twist my mind.

A life of ordinary,

Perfect for me!

Like all conversations,

This is temporary,

Feel free to walk away.

The Old Man:

Wish me to walk,

Or wish me to crawl.

I leave not,

I stand right here.

I am your guide.

Deny me, accept me,

Choose one.

It matters not,

Since I’m here to say:

Follow your one wish!

Do not allow to be stopped!

Move on, move on!

A pity you wait

A journey waits for no one!

Go on, child,

Follow your favorite dream.

The prize goes to those that fight,

Not to those that take flight.

A coward’s life is ordinary,

You refuse to be wary

Of your mistake.

The Boy:

‘Twas an insult you say,

You dare call me names?

I work twice as hard

Then those that play.

Fools like you!

The Old Man:

I move not,

Your words mean nothing.

With no proof,

Your life is hollow.

What say you?

The Boy:

You tread dangerous ground!

I am strong, not weak!

Ask for proof, I’ll show you proof!

There’s plenty to be found.

Just follow me.

I can swing a sword,

I can catch a wolf,

I can ride the horse.

I am my own lord,

I rule my life!

The Old Man:

Of your talents I must laugh,

Catching a wolf?

Ha! Try snatching a dragon!

You haven’t seen why I’ve seen,

Or I would watch you run!

Why swing the sword

For not a purpose?

Your heart screams to fly,

Yet you hold back.

Adventure is in your mind,

Buried in your soul!

It is useless to hide!

Heed my cry:

Follow your one wish!

Do not allow to be stopped!

Move on, move on!

A pity you wait

A journey waits for no one!

Go on, child,

Follow your favorite dream.

The Boy:

Your words stab me,

I will go off on my way

And find this proof!

I say with glee,

“I’m better than this!”

I am not the weak,

I am of the strong!

I will venture far,

Even when all is bleak.

I will not fail!

The Old Man:

So you want to journey?

It is hard, mind you.

Few dare try it.

Must you be brave,

And quick, I say.

Many men have gone,

Many corpses come back.

The Boy:

Tell me quest,

Show me the way.

I’ll go right to left,

To east to west

My heart calls me.

You sir, have found me out.

My will is strengthened!

I must head fast!

A sword for me for any bout,

My wits and my skills

I’ll also take.

A life of ordinary,

A pitiful life!

Why do I fight

My one true love?

Fast! Fast!

Into the great unknown!

The Old Man:

To North, I pray you go

To old stone arc,

By the great oak tree.

Don’t venture alone,

Take plenty in company,

And hear the call

Of the voice of afar.

The unknown is in peril,

It cries for help.

You are no hero,

But you are not zero.

Your heart is of gold,

A soul of steel!

Go, child, on!

Head off on your way.

All:

Follow your one wish!

Do not allow to be stopped!

Move on, move on!

A pity you wait

A journey waits for no one!

Go on, child,

Follow your favorite dream.

The sun shines

On a perfect day.

A promise of love!

Love for a new day,

Love for adventure,

Love for a purpose now found!

The Boy:

Where shall I go,

And what shall I do?

If I must save,

I will swing like so!

My blade, my friend!

The Old Man:

Off on your way then.

You best be moving.

The day needs saving

In the other land.

The Boy:

Thank you, old man!

I know what I must do.

I will not fail,

I will not fail,

This ordinary life,

Will be left far behind!

The End
