The First Day Of Spring

The long winter is finally done,
A new spring has just begun
Soft green grass begins to peep
Out of the earth's winter sleep

A few small patches of snow remain
That will melt in the next day's rain
Flowers pop up here and there
Trees are budding everywhere

The river flows clear of  solid ice
Spring frees it of winter's vise
The sun is  getting stronger,
the days are getting longer

I go for a walk in sunny weather
Winter wool gives way to leather
Heavy boots are put away
Walking shoes come out to play

I am content on this lovely day
The fresh breeze takes my breath away
My love and I walk hand in hand
As spring reclaims  the dormant land

The End
