Yesterday, a blackbird woke me to tell me of the end of days -
each chirp and shrill deliberate and haunting,
the pauses raised goosebumps on my skin.

He watched me with his ghostly voodoo eyes,
stealing chunks of my soul and hiding them
in the nooks between his onyx wings.

I can feel the steady press of wind in the holes he left behind.
