Poems, like Prayers

Poems, like prayers
are recited by heart,
reviving ancient wisdom
across arid generations

A priest, like a poet,
recites Hail Marys
rapidly whispering
rocking back and forth
eyes softly closed.
He exorcises demons
From a dark soul,
during his transit
on the metro.

Prayers and poetry
Penetrate profoundly
they touch a heart
wrapped in thorns and fire,
strengthen during sadness,
stitch lost souls together,
and lead the devoted,
who melt into their light,
out of the unknown
into everlasting life.

The End
