Happily Ever After

Running, cold branches crackling everywhere around me,
the sound of my ragged breath fills my head,
heart pounding wildly, hands trembling from fear
running away from the sounds of his feet following.
Eyes scanning, searching, bursting with tears
running down my cheeks like water caressing a fountain.

A victim lost in a darkness that stole my heart and left fear behind,
love fiercely twisted into something far from love.
How could it come down to this, all tattered and torn?
Love has betrayed me, stealing away my happily ever after,
leaving my dreams shattered like fine glass crumbled under his feet,
and I know that I shall never love again.

The End
