please don't goMature

last verse inspired by something i saw somewhere (i can't remember)

i can deal with pain.
i can do that.

i promised to protect you,
even as you fall faster
with each hour that passes

i turned around
and you were standing on the ledge
and i couldn't do anything

even as you made eye contact
and stepped off.
you didn't leap.

you didn't jump off the edge.
almost like a reluctant step

but death closed its shadowy arms around you
before i even had a chance to say goodbye
he took you away

he took you away from me
but you were the one who
invited yourself into his embrace

and all i could think
as i saw you fall,
was 'no please, not her'.

and all i could think
with a frenzied,
blood-torn and love-worn mind,
as i saw death carry you away,

'you can break my soul,
take my life away,
beat me,
hurt me,
kill me.

but for the love of god
don’t touch her.'

The End
