Pitter Patter

Written over a few weeks time thanks to impressive amounts of writer's block and just plain ol' distraction.

Finally finished -> 6:47pm 23rd April '09 Thursday

Pitter Patter
Pitter Patter
The orchestral droplets
Unceasing, continue to compose
This uplifting dirge
Eyes so cold
Heart so withered
Continue to sightlessly gaze
This rhythmic dance
On mirrored canvas
Where he solemnly stares
Into Death's cold,
Fervent and soulless eyes.

Pitter Patter
Pitter Patter
The crawling seconds pass
Each a milestone
In convoluted reasoning
Mouth so dry
Soul so torn
Remains adamantly shut
Vocabulary so conveniently
Forgotten; wit be his fleeting friend
Until at last, emotionlessly
A fractured thought becomes -
"So... this is it?"

Pitter Patter
Pitter Patter
Thick silence pervades
He holds Death's gaze
Borne stubbornly back
Black pits so alive
Face so familiar
Refusing to look back
Part enthralled he waits
Waits to hear his voice
Intent eyes a firm vigil keep
On the unholy reflection
Haloed by a morphing artpice

Pitter Patter
Pitter Patter
And naught else could be heard
Waiting for the phantom reply
Irked and impatient
Fists so clenched
Ears so strained
And the orchestral rain
A crescendo reached
Pushing this jaded mind
Into an angry abyss sublime
Winds screaming, words gushing
"Why won't you answer me?"

Pitter Patter
Pitter Patter
Not a word, not a motion
The dark reflection
Stock still stood
Face so gaunt
Eyes so haunted
Light headed anger metamorphs
Into heavy minded grief
The new pristine, mangled
Avatar, brings with it
A slow watery procession
"So you've come to mock me."

Pitter Patter
Pitter Patter
Another dam breached
Another river freed
Emotions rampant run
Taste so salty
Feeling so bitter
Memories old, reanimated
Pain familiar, he speaks
"Then mock me, fiend
Deny me what you signify
These tears, your entertainment
Tell me - Are you satisfied?"

Pitter Patter
Pitter Patter
The cackling howl
The morphing mural
Reflection's steady gaze
Eyes so red
Pain so real
Understanding was all that was required
Tis precisely
What was being denied
Grasping at straws
Sense still elusive
"Is it not my time?"

Pitter Patter
Pitter Patter
Tears fresh
Guilt afrenzy
His madness run amok
Gaze so hateful
Heart so cold
Wishing he knew
Why death had called
He looks away
Away from his phantasmic reflection
Away from the chilling,
Inhuman, organic artpiece

Pitter Patter
Pitter Patter
Percipital beats
Thrum on and on
Echoing with the silence
Room so empty
Mind so boggled
The room barren
With the solitary window
Be where he sat
Eyes wide, perceived laughter
Rings out from source unknown

Pitter Patter
Pitter Patter
A singular metallic string
Slips into the masterpiece
A set of trills on tiled floor follow
Fingers so numb
Breath so shallow
Turning back
To find Death's image
Washed away
Only to be replaced
Cruelly by one
He'd always cursed

Pitter Patter
Pitter Patter
Crimson droplets rain
On a tiled floor; mere
Mimicry of the scene outside
Eyes so resigned
Reasoning so convoluted
Laughter rings
In a room deathly silent
Save for the drip... drip
Of sanguine water
Save for the steady drum
Of nature's vain fountain of life.

Pitter Patter
Pitter Patter
The orchestral backdrop
Shattered, in pieces
Reminiscent of his mind
Sight so dim
Throat so parched
He can't help but wonder
Why Death wouldn't answer
A question so simple
And to leave him to question
In fading life,
Whose reflection he had truly seen

Pitter Patter
Pitter Patter
This gruesome pool grows
Darkness takes over
But wait!
Face so gaunt
Pain so numbed
That light he sees
Ever changing but persistent
An ambulance? Hallucination? Or something else?
Curiosity's right denied
By parched throat's strangling hold
Fading thoughts... and howling wind... or are they voices beyond now hidden door... or a beckoning call... I guess I'll never know....

The End
