Petals in the Falling Rain

For people that leave without saying goodbye. And for those who never knew they had to.

In the city lights, I am blessed with solitude
so far from the maelstrom that is the past year
I need nothing but the stars that shine at me
and I'm almost certain all is well

But I never had the time
to watch the petals
in the falling rain
I couldn't remember
when I last
suffered such shame

I'll be happy if I never see the dawn again
because this dusk has become my best friend
Never turning away with promises of gold
or leaving me with a cheapened heart

In the illume of the passing clouds
I wonder if dreams could share such tranquility
Soon morning will follow in its cursed stare
and I'll be reminded of my pain

The End
