Peace of Florida

Deep in the untamed wilds of the woods
Is where I belong
Barefoot and free
My sole feels the earth
With each step, I know each blade
As it bends beneath
Passing under my arch

Find me
Wading through
Fern laden swamps
Waist deep in Cypress Domes
Walking through
Pine Flatwoods
Oak Hummock
And Scrub

I greet each species by name
Calling out to old friends
My reply heard by the rustle of leaves

Admiring curling tendril
Flat broad spears piercing the sky
Viney masses writhing over tree trunks
Delicate lace embroidered on greenery

Breathing deeply
I know that I am home.

The End
