Past Love

Remember where we always used to go
when we had nothing else to do?
That hill hidden away from our town
I still can see the sun shining through the branches
under our favourite oak tree

But it’s gone now...

Like when I used to come over to your house
and we’d stay together in your room
Talking about the week we had at school
then we would kiss softly
talk about our hopes and dreams for the future

But you moved out soon after...

We said we would stay together forever
You’d be there to make me smile
and I’d wave away your tears
We said we would stay together forever
I still think about you once in a while
but I have no one to wave away my tears

At our first dance, I wore my brother’s suit
You wore that beautiful red dress
We swayed in the moonlight until dawn was upon us
then we watched the sunrise in each other’s arms
I can still see it now, clear as a bell

But I have nothing now but the memory

It was a beautiful day in August
when you called me out of the blue
and said you wanted to talk to me
Your Father found a new job far away
and you had to move out tomorrow

No matter how much we cried
we couldn’t change a thing

We said we would stay together forever
You’d be there to make me smile
and I’d wave away your tears
We said we would stay together forever
I still think about you once in a while
but I have no one to wave away my tears

We promised we would stay in touch
but as the months went by
we spoke less and less
until you became nothing more
than a memory

The End
