^ Verses 43 - 49

They fight,

Alone the two,

Defiant of the rest,

Hungry for the power: scratches,

Clawed limbs.

Mouth ajar,

Fast lashing out,

Blind stabs with razor teeth,

Pushing beyond the rock hard scales,

Plunging.

Bleeding,

The skin: now pierced,

Weakening each other,

A growing hole in defences,

Their heel.

Alpha,

The group’s victor,

Attacks the younger one,

Savage scrapes from reptilian

Claws. Slash.

Deadly,

Blood spurts at them,

Family fall backwards,

Eyes stuck on the fighting kinsmen,

Afraid.

Leader,

Aged and wise,

Exerts almighty force,

One final swing of lizard arm,

Winner.

Loser,

Weak on the floor,

Tries to crawl away – free,

Spotted by the others: trampled

And gone.

The End
