If's and Only's

And you, the great go-getter
Have been singing me to sleep,
With tales of vibrant misery;
If only I had time to speak.

For I've climbed mountains, surely
I've had adventures too,
I might tell you how the story ends
If only I knew.

In all the if's and only's
There's a paralysing view,
Of what could be, of what could be!
And what we stand to lose.

The End
