just please don’t leave me here aloneMature

Sometimes I dream about all the hands
that I’ve touched in my lifetime and
some I recognize but most of them
are just the hands of strangers
whose faces I cannot place.
I write poetry like your fingerprints
are the only ones to imprint on me
but the truth is I’ve been touched
by thousands of people and
you’re the only one I care to remember.
Lately I can’t think about your absence
without feeling it in my chest
like my heart is digging its own grave
in the boneyard of my sternum
and I don’t know how I’ll ever manage
if you leave me here alone -
your hands are the only ones I want to hold.

The End
