i've always liked the hours in the nightMature

I’ve always liked the hours in the night
between evening and morning, when the sky
is so thick and dark you could cut it with a knife
and the moon is the only one looking back at you.
I smoke my cigarettes on the fire escape, blowing rings
up into the atmosphere.  I am on the precipice of life,
I can feel it in the humming vibrations in my bones.
I like that nearly no one else is awake, is feeling the air
blow cool against their skin, no one else is quietly
letting the night absorb her.  This noctuary is all my own.

The End
