we do not sit near each otherMature

We do not sit near each other.  There is enough sparking
between us from across the room.  I wish I didn’t know - instinctively,
like a wolf knows how to howl, like a lion knows how to roar -
the purpose, the weight, the meaning behind every miniscule detail
of your behavior.  I wish I didn’t catch my breath in my sleep
when you were close enough to touch, to feel your breath on my neck.
I wish I didn’t still remember the way my pulse hid in my throat,
or how my anticipation tasted like honeyed wine and late night air.
You’ve permeated everything and I wish I could scrub you away.

The End
