"careful," they sayMature

Careful, they say,
their fingernails like razor blades
grazing against your skin.
Just breathe, they say,
and you’re breathing in but there’s
no air left, you’re wrapped in cellophane.
Don’t struggle in there,
you’re only hurting yourself.

But the stars have blinked out and
in the canopy of velvet navy sky
you only see the void and their pupils
seem like tiny black holes they’ve captured -
like they captured you - and you know
you can’t let them absorb you, too.

The End
