we sit among curls of smokeMature

We sit among curls of smoke
      chewing on words made hollow
          by time and disuse.

We spit them out like tobacco juice
      and leave them to stain the floor.

We occupy ourselves in other ways
      with lips and tongues,
           pray to the gods of sunrise -

           just leave us here.
           do not wake our tired bodies.
           leave us to the passage of time.

           let it hollow us, too.

The End
