we cradle broken things in the palms of our handsMature

We cradle broken things in the palms of our hands
like they’re trinkets that might get us into heaven
if we hold them up at the gates, palms open, baring our treasures,
saying,  ”Please, sir, just a little bit of salvation is all I really need.
These are the bones of everything I tried to fix, you have to believe
I tried to save them all.  I tried to save them all.”
