i am on my knees, praying to the godsMature

i am on my knees
i am praying to the gods
of things i never believed in
until i was old enough to
be devastated by tidal waves
of want and hormones and angst
that tasted more like whiskey
than human nature.
you are a chapel, a synagogue,
a confessional fraught with
the reminders that we’re all
stained, sinners, broken toys
left in the basement until
everyone’s died off and
all that’s left are the natural
disasters ready to eat their way in.

The End
