I Miss You

Tonight I sat down to reminisce
With a glass of wine
And my old high school yearbook.

I flipped through long forgotten faces,
And faded classrooms,
And past loves and future crooks.

My lips had formed an unnoticed smile
When I reached the page
You’d scribbled a hasty note.

Chin met palm as I read your promise
To always stay friends
And an obscure movie quote.

I drained my glass and put the book down,
Closed my eyes and wished
Your hollow vow had held true.

I could've been bitter, hurt, or angry,
But instead I sighed,
Since the truth is I miss you.

The End
