Personal Mythologies

In my mind I'm a hero,
I slash with my sword,
And rescue the damsel,
From a skeletal horde.

In the stories I write,
With the pen in my mind,
I sail the all the seas,
There's treasure to find!

I look in the mirror,
And see what I'm not,
I'm no Achilles,
There's nothing I've got.

I'm nothing like Heracles
or Ajax or Thor,
I'm no one to Odin,
I can't take anymore.

At first I was hopeful,
I daydreamed for hours,
All I wish for,
are cool superpowers.

But the stories of old,
They are not real,
And I hate how those people,
How they make me feel.
