This Is How I Live

This is how I live
Hiding in the dark
Eyes like glowing lanterns
Filled with a lonely spark.

This is how I live
In tunnels, dark and cold
Spine all hunched and twisted
And skin like something old.

This is how I live
Scrounging, fighting, feeding
Stealing like a thieving dog
And trying to stop the bleeding.

This is how I live
With a wounded, broken heart
Ever since the terrible war
Tore my world apart.

This is how I live
Each day an endless fight
Too scared to flee the darkness
Or to enter the light.

The End
