What's That Watermelon Doing There?

What's that watermelon for?

I know I planted corn

A memoir of the crops that failed

And left alone to mourn

As green the rind

Is pink and sweet

The seeds that can't be swallowed

And rows of beans

Towards the sky

In all the years that followed

What's that watermelon for?

The only of it's crop

The single fruit that did survive

The drought that took each drop

What's that watermelon for?

When circumstance was beaten

So beautiful, so rich, so green

Too bad it must be eaten

The End
