The Last Story Ever

The story echoed in her head

The last lines she had read

Brilliantly flowing from pen to page

The words written without care to age

Books long ago banned in her world

Since the war erupted around her

Tearing apart both family and friend

War never seeming to end

So she craddled the story close to her heart

Hoping she would never have to part

Until the day they discovered her there

And stole the book and dragged her by the hair

So she sits in jail, no chance at escape

The story that was her way out

Floats in the air she breathes

Ashes in her mouth

The End
