Purple Chipmunks

She grew up on stories

of strange and alien animals

hidden in forests so big.

She grew up on rumours

of sights and proof of the animals

of people hoping they existed

She grew up and searched

the world over for the animals

but never saw even a shadow

She grew old, still believing

that somewhere, there were animals

that hid away from her.

She grew older still

and with age came illness and weakness

yet still she always believed.

She was old enough

when she went to close her eyes

but something colourful stopped her.

she fell asleep forever, smiling

in her grip, strange purple fur;

purple chipmucks had given her a wish

She never stopped believing.

The End
