Modern Terrors

The demons ravenous for their pound of flesh
as you lay so vulnerable at night
to sink their fangs into your deepest confines
until you are overcome with fright

Alas, these aren’t mere morbid fantasies
that have assailed modern literary tastes
The demons are your inner thoughts
to peace and quiet they lay waste

Could a being with pointed canines
be more scarier than repaying a debt
a mortgage, an illness or even food to eat
other problems with which you are beset

Stories of horror are everywhere
and some haunt from beyond the grave
when mortals die, the lives deprived
from our world they cannot be saved.

The End
