Miss Universe

how insignificant we really are?
For our arrogance knows no bounds
We claim to be the most beautiful
another fantasy of us earthbound

Or have we merely accepted
that in this universe we're alone
Confined to a corner of the galaxy
on this rock we were thrown

to this concept we call beauty
a product of tired human eyes
a mask to hide our own ugliness
and of vanity personified

That which is truly beautiful
we so ignore in every way
instead attracted to what is fleeting
to become tomorrow’s throwaway

The End
