Melancholy Express

I spend so long looking ahead,

Watching, learning, waiting,

Consequences always spread,

Curiosity sated but heart idling.

Information feeds animal contention,

Mind flicking off in a blink,

Heart cursing its inattention,

Starts its own thrashing jink.

Like a freight train behind,

Hungry momentum driving it,

The beast, in its dash, blind,

Animal curiosity forgoing wit.

It stands still to wonder,

Heady engine rolls on through,

Swallowing rationalisations faster,

Casting them from view.

All the considered judgement,

Careful planning and strategy

Torn apart in a night, abluent,

Cogs crunching out this elegy.

The End
