Twenty, tenMature

I asked you
if writing would still matter
in twenty years
you laughed at me
and shook your head
telling me it wasn't that important,
I was six years old
and I didn't understand writing
not yet.
I was eleven,
and was told it was a hobby,
but that I should keep it up.
I was thirteen
and exploring different genres
and told it wasn't a real profession
and that I really ought to think about my future
I'm sixteen
and have let my words flow into the world
with no will to stop them.
I asked you again
if writing would matter
in ten years
you shrugged
and said "who knows?"
but what you really said
was that it didn't matter to you.
