Man Up!

Inspired by the song 'Man Up Anthem' by 116 Clique (Lecrae, KB, Tedashii, Sho Baraka, Derek Minor and Andy Mineo), I wrote this piece to tell myself and others about what it takes to be a man. I wrote this piece to give the right perspective of what is a man and what it takes to be a man.

Man Up! Be a man!

I was told to ‘Man Up!’

As a child, I think like a child

But as I grew up, I put away childish things

I learn to Man Up

Man Up! Be a man!

I was told to ‘Man Up!’

My physical changed into a new being

Muscles and six packs? No

More bellies and fats with couple of tattoos

Man Up! Be a man!

I was told to ‘Man Up!’

People told me that sex is for man and not for boys

They are wrong, unless they wear condoms!

Joking! having sex does not make up a man but make up a child in man’s body

Having responsibility to your wife and your children make up a man

Man Up! Be a man!

I was told to ‘Man Up!’

Someone told me this: Get wisdom, be smart!

It is correct, get wisdom and be smart!

It is written: To be wise, get wisdom!

It is also written: To receive wisdom, have reverence in God!

Man Up! Be a man!

I was told to ‘Man Up!’

I am a warrior and a fighter

But I do not fight in a physical fight

Nonsense, what do I get from there?

Nothing but laying dead

I will die, what is point dying in such tragic?

A man fight for something, they stand up for the right thing

I stand up for my faith, fighting for God’s presence

Against power and principalities

Against spiritual darkness and the odds of life

Man Up! Be a man!

I was told to ‘Man Up!’

This world told me to bow before everything that is placed around me

I refused and the world kicked me out

I am good, I am good

Good enough to spank the whole world for their crimes

Crimes of walking in childish ways

Ignoring God, that is what they do

And they blame God when evil strikes

Was God evil? That is what they think

I do not think so

I refuse to think so

God is good, He taught me to be a man through good and bad seasons

Man Up! Be a man!

I was told to ‘Man Up!’

I stand against the crowd

Fighting for the right value, for the good

I am an agent of change, not to boast

But I was told to be like one

I am a revolutionist, call me Martin Luther

He fought against Catholics

I fight against corrupters and hypocrites

In churches, in government, in my town

I am their worst nightmare

I am a man

I was told to ‘Man Up!’

Man Up! Be a man!

The End
