Making Peace

The war with the sea goes unfinished
even as the skies are still,
even as the water is unmoving.

I will forgive
the raging tide
that ripped at my soul
and made me blind.
I will leave my anger
and malice aside
for all the wounds,
the pain,
the cries.
The ivory flag
we hoisted high
will have a meaning
and purify
all of the hate that subsides.
I will forgive the wicked tides.
