Looking back

"We must run away,

save our lives!"

He whispered to me

anxious but wise

"Think about the future,

And never look back!"

terrified and hasty

my dear love was.

And I promptly packed our whole lives

 into couple of sacks,

even though his words scratched my soul

 like a million knives

"think about the future,

never look back"

and our precious nest

Was left behind

With our dreams

And thoughts

And hopes

And when we were almost saved,

And out of the horror

I gave one last glance of farewell

And was paralyzed
