New Year's Resolutions

December 31st is the day that almost everyone turns into a phony. We make goals for ourselves which we plan on using minimal effort to complete. People, over the years, get to thinking that just because the year is new, they are too. A date cannot change your personality to make you more likely to reach your goals. The only thing that can change your personality is you. The problem with making a big fuss about the new year is that it creates false hope. It is dangerous to make goals a year in advanced when you don't know what the future actually holds. Some problem may appear and cause many people to fail to reach their goals, sending some into a spiraling depression. It would be healthier to make daily or weekly goals where you are less likely to set yourself up for failure.
