Keep My Burdens Close

She speaks softly, with the words of a poet
silently breaking my spirit with little effort
She looks through me like I am glass
and I shatter just as easily
I was never on the verge of tears
I wasn’t even upset
I prefer to keep my burdens close
and my sadness closer

Because it means more to me than you
your eyes gleamed like the knife’s edge
as you cut me out of your life
just as you let me in
I was never frustrated
I wasn’t even distraught
I always keep my burdens close
and my sadness closer

The End
