In a letter

Sums up my luck.

i had a job at a warehouse in a small town
about 2o miles away from home. i worked nights
trying to earn enough dough to live on my own
never quite made it, was out of my sight
i hurried down the highway one friday after shift
not sure if my luck was a curse or a gift
i saw blood on the ground but not the road kill
next thing i knew i was rolling my dads car uphill

broken bones and broken glass, i just wanted to see my girl
the next day she told me that she was leaving my world
that's the day i learned my lover was loving another
she wouldn't even face me, she left it in a letter

years later i met a girl who had luck like me
got a job in the oilfield and money came easy
she asked if she could have my baby
and I said no, yes, alright maybe
let's plan this right and let's get married
but i broke my back and she called me lazy
while the whole time she's been taking it easy
think she used me, atleast she's happy

6 months in my own prison, did i learn a lesson
is she my child or is from some other wild night
just another day my lover was loving another
she wouldn't even face me, she left it in a letter

someday I'll find my true north for what it's worth
I know I'm bound to feel more pain
but i know it's worth the gamble to try to gain
a love that won't leave me feeling insane
a lover that won't love another
and leave it in a letter

The End
