at times, even blinding,
so were the sun-charged diamonds
that danced upon the river waters.
moving reflections of sky above,
a mirrored wall of brilliant blue
hiding all within.
i fought to see beyond the painful light,
to glimpse the other world on the other side
beneath the surface of what seems to be.
but then a wisp of cloud drifted in
to cast a gentle shade,
and in the cooler light,
the mirror turned to window glass,
and the river's inner realm
so filled with wonders of another life,
suddenly, quite unexpectedly,
a world so different than my own,
this only life I’ve known.
