If I couldMature

Things I would do if life was different

I'm sat back, a sense of warmth in my soul.

I've a drink in hand and a safe friend.

More than a friend. A lost love.

Their ear is my ear.

We've spoken before, a bubble in time.

I say 'If I could'

She knows it's not real, not so in the place I'm at,

Caught, a trapped rat.

But she smiles anyway. I'd run away.

If I could. With her.

She's crying now and my warmth is gone.

I say sorry. She takes my hand and we go.

The End
