I Refuse
Horrors played out across lands far beyond our eyes
Beatings, the hangings, the lynchings unknown
But the truth of a mirror image begins to rise
The games they play are the same back home
We pay for ease of mind, as the weak pay the price
We pay to fund smiling armies, another blood-tainted sacrifice
And we refuse to condemn the evils of our friends
Restraint and security we cry, another thin veil
To ease our guilt again
I refuse to die for a spider’s web of lies
I refuse to die for a broken idea of freedom
I refuse to die, for those who can fight for themselves
Who crush and destroy, the dreams of others
Whole empires fuelled by money and power
Either side fighting for the energy to consume
The bones of the innocent paving the way
For the resources of empires to devour
I refuse to die for a spider’s web of lies
I refuse to die for a broken idea of freedom
I refuse to die, for those who can fight for themselves
Who crush and destroy, the dreams of others
I refuse to die for some warlord’s peace of mind
I refuse to die for the oil fields and the gas pipes
I would rather watch the world burn and start again
I refuse to die, to justify a warlord’s crimes
