I DON'T HAVE TO BE PERFECT!

I never, ever thought I'd say this. But I am. Because I'm ready to.

Note: This is a response to a poem I wrote yesterday called "I Want to Be Perfect." Please read yesterday's poem before you read this.

I DON'T HAVE TO PERFECT!!!

This is hard
This is hell
But I will do it
And I will persevere
I don't have to be perfect!

I cannot believe these words
Are coming from my lips
Just yesterday, I
Swore my heart to perfection, but
I don't have to be perfect!

Scared to death
Yes, I'm scared to death
Afraid of freedom
Even though I know
I don't have to be perfect!

Bondage is safe
Freedom is frightening
But I WILL forsake flawlessness
I will let Him unlock my chains
I don't have to be perfect!

I want to run back
I want to embrace perfection's chase
I want to lie here
Bed warmed by guilt, but
I don't have to be perfect!

I don't want this
I don't really want freedom yet
But, God help me, I will know it!
I will let Him release me!
I don't have to be perfect!

I still hate myself
I still feel the need to be blameless
But, wait! It's been done!
Christ's flawlessness covers my flaws!
I don't have to be perfect!

I WILL NOT DIE HERE!
I WILL NOT SUCCUMB TO "SAFETY"!
I WILL LET HIS PERFECTION BE MINE
THOUGH MY HEART IS STILL HEAVY...

I DON'T HAVE TO BE PERFECT!

The End
