Hourglass Sand

When you love someone,
Family or friend,
It brings sadness and sorrow,
When their life has to end.

You stay by their side,
Comforting their soul,
Knowing when they leave,
Your heart gains a hole.

It's hard to let go,
So you clutch their hand,
But they slip through your fingers,
Like hourglass sand.

In a way we are an hourglass,
And our life is the sand,
And when the sand stops flowing,
We are to leave this land.

But no one is lost forever,
Their memories still remain,
The reassurance that gives us,
Helps guide us through the pain.

Some believe the soul lives,
And some think that's a lie,
But I suppose we will all find out,
When our own sand runs dry...

The End
