hollowing souls

Sometimes
I bring my hand
in front of my eyes
and look at it
thinking
my fingers could be thinner
and then
my hand is so stubby
and finally
why am I so ugly

But then
I see in flashes -
a skeletal palm and fingers
and then
a thumb and three fingers
and finally
a stump of a wrist

And
I look into my palm
trace my lifeline
and think
I am selfish
and then
I am sorry
and finally
thank you.

The End
