Holding Back (Yet Holding On)

©1995 Nick Robinson (FTH Ch 3, pg 21)

When you love someone so much

And hope they love you the same

You make your heart an easy target

And you make your love a game

The love I gave… so much

The love I’d craved… untouched

The time I’d spent… in vain

The time I’m left… in chains

So now I’m holding back, yet holding on

As I wonder where my heart belongs

Oh, I gave too much too soon before

Next time I won’t be wrong

No, next time I won’t be wrong

Now I chose to ignore the signs

Thinking the love would see us through

And I thought our love would last forever

‘Cause I thought our love was true

But now I’m back where I started

Oh so many years ago

And what lies around the corner

For my heart, I just don’t know

So the love I’ll give… unsure

But the love I crave…so pure

Now the time it’ll take…unclear

And the time alone…I fear

And now I’m holding back, yet holding on

As I wonder where my heart belongs

Oh, I gave too much too soon before

Next time I won’t be wrong

No, next time I won’t be wrong

The End
