It should answer most fundamental questions about how the site works.
General guidelines
- All authors are responsible for their own content. We don't write this stuff — you do. So feel free to use a little adult humour, but please
don't go overboard, or we'll have to flag the work as containing mature content.
- If you're adding to an existing work, try and stick to the theme, back-story and characters of the original work as much as possible.
Often, the original author will provide guidance, which you can see in the
yellow box to the right of the work in question.
- Posts need to be at least 140 characters long. That's about three average sentences, not too painful, but it prevents spamminess.
- If you find a problem somewhere, or see a bad posting, click the red Flag it button on a work or user profile and report it to us!
- Note: Please be careful if you spent a long period of time writing the same branch. It's entirely possible that someone else is completing the same
branch as you, and in that case, since we don't lock posts while you edit, whoever posts first will "win" and you'll have to move your post elsewhere.
Collaborative works
- If you're writing in a collaborative work, try not to write more than one or two segments of the same work at a time, unless
you've discussed it with the other participating authors first. It keeps the storyline fresher and funnier if you let others play along. :)
- Try not to kill off the main character in a collaborative work... at least, not permanently. It can be pretty detrimental to the storyline —
it's also largely useless, as someone is bound to revive the character eventually.
- If you decide to post something that's totally out of line with the original author's guidance, stupid, or just plain malicious, there's a good chance
your chapter or branch will be reported. If that happens, a moderator will review the issue and may split your chapter into its own new work,
or delete it outright, depending on their mood.
Addventures
- If you're creating or adding a branch to an addventure, make sure that the new branches you create are individually appealing.
This makes it easier to keep the storyline alive and kicking.
- Addventures can have up to 3 branches per page. That's designed on purpose, so that an author can have a portion of the work remain linear, and then
branch later on if they so choose.
