Ghost Train Ride

It's about realising that someone was not really in love with you, and that you (disastrously) misread the signs

We used to talk in such easy tones

And even the silence became my friend

Another smile, another exchanged joke

Some days I felt that I could never fall

Some days I felt that I had nothing at all

Messages sent back and forth, maybe in love

Lines between friendship and delusion blurred

More raindrops, more heavenly signals from above

Some days I could stand up tall

Most days I’m left with nothing at all

Declarations of love left to conditions

Rejected by friends, you respond to me in kind

I thought we were so much more

Is love anything more than a ghost train ride

I guess we both ran out of options, babe

I bet I’ll weep when I hear the answer

I guess we’ll both keep seconding guessing, babe

Every day I felt that I had to crawl

And it was worth nothing at all

Declarations of love left to conditions

Rejected by friends, you respond to me in kind

I thought we were so much more

Is love anything more than a ghost train ride

Now is there any more words left to say

Before you put me before the light

Before you make me pay

Declarations of love left to conditions

Rejected by friends, you respond to me in kind

I thought we were so much more

Is love anything more than a ghost train ride

The End
