Ghost Girls

The overweight student hears
'Mike's new squeeze is gorgeous! '
Lump in throat, he plods home,
imagination riddled.

For the rest of his life, he wonders.

But his friend was misinformed.
The woman, as described,
did not exist.

Glimpsed in ads, magazines,
on TV, the web, spun count-
less ways by men's Venus-Muse -
girls who do not exist
are everywhere.

We have reached saturation point.

round a corner, a demoiselle,
vanilla or Sobranie, disappears...

For a breath, she owns you.

The End
