Friendly enemy

It's a strange way, to use a phrase
how disputes are settled these days
Gone are the valiant days of chivalry
satisfaction now gained by covert ways

Malice is so artfully hidden
behind that beguiling smile
while he is shaking your hand
into you he is sinking that knife

While he's singing your praises
to other's he's spreading lies
you view many with suspicion
but your friend's betrayal will surprise

In the dirt when you fall
who has cast the first stone
among your enemies stands your friend
in your predicament leaves you alone

The End
