Fourteen Years
©1995 Nick Robinson (FTH - Ch 3, pg 32)

Fourteen years is a long way away
And if I had the choice to stay, I’d stay
But now I’ll live my life day by day
Oh fourteen years go quick; I pray, I pray

See, he did all that he could
And for months upon months he fought for me
He tried so hard to keep his place our home
But our future together, the judge didn’t see
And I can’t possibly know how much he hurts
See, I’ve only just turned two
But be strong Daddy, ‘cause in fourteen years
I’ll come back home to you

Now fourteen years is a long way away
And if I had the choice to stay, I’d stay
But now I’ll live my life day by day
Oh fourteen years, go quick; I pray, I pray

Now all those things Daddy’s take for granted
He’ll never be able to take for good
But I know he’d share his whole life with me
If only the judge had said he could
For a part-time Daddy he never wanted to be
It was the worst of all his fears
But don’t cry Daddy, please dry your tears
I’ll be back home in fourteen years

Oh fourteen years is such a long way away
And if I had the choice to stay, I’d stay
But now I’ll live my life day by day
Oh fourteen years go quick; I pray, I pray

The End
